 Prevent Duty

All schools, nurseries, pre-schools, and childcare providers are obliged to have a due regard to the need to prevent people being drawn into terrorism.  Therefore, as part of our safeguarding strategy we will work in partnership with parents, carers, families, other agencies, and the community to promote the British values of Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, and Mutual Respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs’

It is recognised that extremism and exposure to extreme materials, views and influences have a negative effect, and lead to poor outcomes for children.  As such, they have no place in our setting.

As part of our planned, routine, and spontaneous activities we will encourage the children to make decisions together by providing opportunities to develop enquiring minds in an atmosphere where questions are valued.  We will encourage the children to collaborate to create rules and codes of behaviour.  Our approach will celebrate differences and encourage understanding that we are free to hold different opinions.  In addition, we will teach the children to treat others as they would want to be treated, through sharing and respecting other’s opinions.

As with any safeguarding issue, any staff member concerned for the well-being of any child, or if they believe a child may be at risk of harm or neglect, must report to the designated officer who will seek advice, and may refer to the Channel Process.  Staff will undertake refresher training for Prevent Duty every three years.
