SLEEPING POLICY AND PROCEDURE

St. Paulinus Preschool we are committed to providing the best care we can for the children who attend our setting, helping them to thrive and achieve positive outcomes. We endeavour to meet the needs, physically, socially, and emotionally of all the children. Adequate rest and sleep are essential for young children’s growth and development, and it is important when children are resting and sleeping, they do so in a safe and comfortable way.At the All About Me meeting with the parents/carers and keyworker sleep routines, and rest needs will be discussed, and any necessary plans agreed, which will be reviewed and changes made to reflect the child’s changing needs. Children will not be urged to sleep if it is unneeded, in addition we will not prevent a child from sleeping if they are tired and in need of sleep. Sleeping children will be laid on a sleeping mat in front of the manager’s desk to allow for constant monitoring, and they will be checked every 10 minutes. After an hour if the child has not naturally woken up, we will gentle wake them. The sleeping mat is waterproof and will be wiped using anti-bacterial wipes after every use. A clean sheet will be used to cover the mat and washed after every use. A blanket will be supplied for comfort, and the temperature of the hall and child monitored to prevent overheating.
